We are often asked to recommend a good quality hand held magnifier for everyday use, not too expensive and preferably with a light. These super-value LED magnifiers fit the bill perfectly. The long-lasting white LED helps highlights text, maps and photos and provides bright even illumination for inspection tasks, research and everyday reading. Which size should I choose?

Pick the larger 3-inch one if your eyes are reasonably good but could just do with a little help every now and then. Perhaps for reading at night when your eyes are tired, or late afternoon as natural daylight diminishes. Go for the smallest one if you need a more powerful lens (7x) to view items like coins and stamps, or you want to check a marking on a piece of jewellery or an antique. If you still can’t decide, you could always try the middle one, which still has a reasonable sized lens, and offers 5x magnification strength – ideal for food labels, to read numbers on a meter or pick out a face on an old photo.

An inexpensive low vision aid

We’ve also found this series of magnifiers to be a sensible option for people with low vision. Having taken these magnifiers to events for blind and partially-sighted people, we’ve seen how users have found the lenses to be a viable alternative to more expensive low-vision aids.
