This mini pocket hand magnifier is one of the smallest and cheapest magnifying glasses you can buy. Made from just a single piece of clear plastic, it keeps costs down to a minimum and makes an ideal first magnifier for a child.

And yet for the money, it’s surprising just how much you get. While it won’t win any awards for optical quality, it does have two lenses built into its tiny 11 centimetre long body. The main one, if you can call it that, kicks in at just 45mm (just under two inches). This one will magnify any subject, text or numbers two times (2x) their original size.

…and 4x lens

Immediately below, at the top of the handle is a further 15mm diameter lens giving a more powerful 4x magnification. Go down further for a frosted grip section, then a hole cut-out at the bottom of the handle so you can thread a piece of string, elastic or cord through if you have one.

If you think you might need a very basic magnifier but don’t want to spend money on a high quality one, then this could be an option for you.
